With less than two weeks before the April 26 deadline, Globe is calling on the government to extend the SIM registration process to allow users to avoid SIM deactivation.
In a statement from the telco, Globe says that they have seen low registration “primarily due to the lack of valid government IDs, and challenged digital literacy.”
According to Globe, they have registered around 27.85 million subscribers in its network as of April 11. This makes up about 32% of its total subscriber base but is still far from even 50% of total registrations.
To strengthen SIM registration efforts, Globe recommends three measures. First, they call on the government to allow for alternative forms of identification (IDs); Second, they appeal for conditional registration to be allowed as customers process their valid IDs; Lastly, they ask for the government to create always-on government-handled assisted registration centers in government offices.
Globe emphasized that failure to register SIMs would result in deactivation and would be disruptive to their customers, as their
basic right to communication would be curtailed. They mentioned how deactivation would impact several aspects of Globe customers’ daily life such as banking, e-commerce, transportation (ride-hailing apps, food delivery, etc), healthcare, education (online learning), entertainment, and more.
As of today, no announcement of extension for the SIM registration has been announced.

It’s a LAW says:
A law is a LAW and is not meant to be broken. Deactivating unregistered SIM cards is the only way for them to comply with the LAW.
donald duck says:
This sham needs to be scrapped it will solve nothing it won’t stop scams / spamming as majority of these activities are done on internet based apps / website and most of all government has been misleading people about it’s reasons
It is also a violation of people’s right of privacy as now people are easily linked to everything even innocent internet activities this benefits government especially politicians who don’t like criticism this benefits agencies like BIR to target online sellers bloggers and freelancers and most of all it’s an added risk of our personal data being leaked / hacked
And by deactivating people from service who choose to respect their privacy is also a violation of people’s rights
