Subscribers of Globe Telecom took to Twitter their frustration over today’s emergency alert, but the prompt wasn’t about any disaster… it was for SIM registration.
Past 11am on Sunday, April 23, many were posting screenshots of an emergency alert from Globe. For Android users, the alert was specifically tagged as ‘extreme’.
The message below was the same for every account:
“GLOBE ADVISORY: Mag-register bago mag-April 26 para hindi ma-deactivate ang prepaid SIM mo! Please disregard this message if you have already registered.
Para sa Globe Prepaid, TM, Globe At Home Prepaid WiFi customers, mag- register for free sa new.globe.com.ph/simreg. Para sa Globe Postpaid and Platinum customers, mag-text lang ng SIMREG to 8080. For company-owned Globe Business accounts, registration steps will be sent to your company’s authorized representative.
Together, let’s make the online space safe for everyone!”
One individual said that this isn’t the correct way of reminding people to register their SIMs. He emphasized that emergency alerts were meant for real emergencies, and that SIM registration barely counts as one.
@enjoyGLOBE @talk2GLOBE i don’t think this is the correct way of reminding people to register their SIM cards. The emergency alert was meant for emergencies. I don’t think sim registration counts as an emergency. pic.twitter.com/Id342oEYzC

Globe has previously called for an extension for SIM registration, but the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) reiterated that there will be no extension beyond the April 26 deadline.
However, as per the IRR of the SIM Registration Act, those unregistered SIMs past the deadline can be reactivated within five days of automatic deactivation once registered.

Take note, to do this apps needs to be updated and its such a hassle and its always under maintenance.
