The Philippines has two major mobile operators in the country – Globe Telecom and Smart Communications, Inc. And in case you’re asking who’s the largest to date, the answer is Globe.
In a report published by Mobile World Live, Globe has finished 2016 with 66.6 million subscribers, surpassing Smart’s 62.1 million. From 32% market share in 2012, Globe now has 52% market share according to GSMA Intelligence.
According to Mobile World Live, Globe closed in on Smart in 2015 when it registered 12.2 million net additions, while Smart lost nearly 5 million mobile customers. Smart’s market share has also dropped since Q4 2015 from 61% to 48% by end of 2016. This prompted PLDT, which also reported a 20% decline in its year-on-year consolidated income amounting to Php21.7USD 0.37INR 31EUR 0.35CNY 3 billion from January to September 2016, to make changes in its leadership and management which it announced in November 2016.

Kaya pala lalong bumaba ang kalidad ng kanilang services mula network signal hanggang customer service.
Ren says:
Though i consider both network has it own evils, i choose globe over smart. Both not perfect, but one has better to offer.
IanM says:
Smart has poor CSR and retention policies, it seems. I for one, had lodged my retention application, but needed to make modifications in my current service. They told me I had to cancel my pending request (retention request) before they can modify my account. So, I terminated my retention, and now I am with the other guys. ;) No wonder they are bleeding subscribers. They just don’t care and people are fickle. So, good luck with that.
Dark_Templar says:
no more data unli, higher charges poor service and quality! both globe and smart! hope a 3rd player can come.
glenn says:
i chose globe bec of the free spotify, smart has free crappy spinnr
Arjey says:
I couldn’t agree more, Smart retention offer was crappy as for the new line application, over the years telco phone subsidy in exchange for Lockup has drastically changed, it is so obvious that Smart wants to monetize data/internet to compensate the declining profit from the traditional Call and SMS, want they didn’t consider is the customer wants and needs, Smart only look after its investors interest.
Globe on the other hand puts emphasis on making partnerships with a lot of content providers such as Spotify and Netflix, though it is not white listed on their data allocation, it was a great marketing move, also worth mentioning is the Globe GOSAKTO which allows the Call SMS and Data to be stack up and extend its validity making it more flexible , Smart doesn’t have that kind of added feature.

SUN Cellular seems to be confused. Wala nang phones amppp! Wala nang phones for retention? Magsasara na ba kayo? Sabihin nyo lang!
jerry says:
sori, i wont leave smart.. im satisfied with my 3 postpaid and 2 prepaid
BJorge says:
If you are with Sun, I pity you. If you want to visit a Sun Store, you will need to line up in a cramped, un-airconditioned hole-in-a-wall shop sa libliban ng malls that is about 4 meters by 10 meters in floor area. You get to try out new phones by holding cardboard cutouts. Diosko naman kahit plastic mock ups e pinagkaila pa. Sun’s website hasn’t changed for 4 years na. Close shop na. Nakakaawa mga subscribers nyo e. We know why Smart/PLDT acquired Sun, but Geez, this is pathetic.
LeRoy says:
I don’t know about you, but the main reason I switched to Globe in 2015 was because Smart Removed their UnliSurf Promo. I didnt have any reason to stay with Smart anymore, and Globe has better data/text/call offers than Smart.
If Smart would bring back their UnliSurf Promos, I would switch to Smart IN A HEARTBEAT!
