Globe has officially launched its VoLTE (Voice over LTE) roaming capabilities. This rollout follows successful technical tests conducted back in 2023, where Globe partnered with Airtel of India to prepare for the global shift from legacy 2G and 3G networks to more efficient 4G and 5G systems.
Globe’s VoLTE roaming is now available in several key destinations, including Japan (via Softbank), Australia (via Optus), Hong Kong (via CSL), Taiwan (via Taiwan Mobile), Macau (via CTM), and the USA (via T-Mobile and AT&T). Italy is also set to join the list through partnerships with TIM and Wind.
VoLTE technology enables users to make high-definition voice calls, send texts, and use mobile data simultaneously over LTE networks, bypassing the need for outdated 2G and 3G systems. This advancement is crucial for Globe customers, who previously faced connectivity issues in countries phasing out older network technologies.
Back in May 2023, Coco Domingo, Globe Vice President for Postpaid and International Business, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation: “Globe will continue to innovate and invest in new technologies to ensure that our customers have the best service. We are excited to roll out VoLTE Roaming and provide them with a seamless and enjoyable experience while traveling in foreign destinations.”
With the current launch, Globe has delivered on its promise. Customers can now enjoy faster call setup times and clearer voice quality, leveraging LTE networks for high-quality voice calls and simultaneous mobile data usage.
To benefit from VoLTE roaming, customers must have a VoLTE-capable device, a VoLTE-provisioned account, and access to an LTE signal from Globe’s roaming partners. Globe advises its users to check device compatibility and enable VoLTE settings before traveling.
Paula Rivera-Castillo, Head of Globe International Business, highlighted the benefits, stating, “With our rapidly expanding global VoLTE roaming footprint, Globe customers can focus on enjoying every adventure, knowing their mobile service has their back.”
In addition to the outbound roaming capabilities, Globe has also introduced VoLTE roaming for inbound travelers to the Philippines, enhancing the connectivity experience for international visitors.
