Globe tests 5G, console-less gaming in the Philippines

Globe has recently partnered with Apper.ph for its recent testing of cloud gaming powered by the former’s 5G mobile network in the Philippines. The initiative aims to check the possibility of console-less gaming in the country with 5G connectivity and cloud technology.

Among the successfully tested titles is BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Inc’s Tekken 7. The test held in Globe Icon Store at Bonifacio Globe City, Taguig. Based on the test, it allowed gamers to play the game with ultra-low latency and close to zero lags. This is ideal for mobile multiplayer online battle games.

“The continuous roll out of Globe 5G will not only change the way we play our favorite online or console-based games, but this is also a leap to a lot of other possibilities that this technology can bring. With Globe 5G, the future is closer than ever.”, said Globe vice president for Strategic Platforms and Partnerships Coco Domingo.

Globe’s 5G connectivity is currently available in select areas in Metro Manila, particularly in Ortigas, Pasig Makati City, and BGC, Taguig. Postpaid and Platinum subscribers, as well as prepaid subscribers with LTE SIMs, may enjoy 5G with a 5G-capable smartphone. Likewise, 5G-enabled devices are offered on Globe Postpaid and Platinum plans for as low as Plan1499.

5G is great, however, if they can implement 4G/LTE nationwide coverage, that would be better. There are still areas wherein signal is only 3G.
