Google expands privacy policy, hide more personal info

Google is now allowing users to request that more of their personal information be removed from the search engine results.

A new Google privacy policy is aimed at stopping the activities of hackers, or malicious entities preying on sensitive information that can cause harm to users. Some of these include identity theft, stalking, and possibly financial fraud.

Previously, users can ask Google to remove personal data from search results although it was limited to ID numbers, banking information, photos of signatures and medical records. The current measure expands upon the coverage of what can be hidden. Physical addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, and even login credentials can now be protected against hackers.

Users can access the Google support page to register URLs containing their personal identity information that should be restricted from showing in search results. Up to 1,000 websites per user can be registered for this purpose.

Google will need to approve the removal of a user’s personal information. If the request is granted, Google will remove the URL containing a user’s personal information from all search results.
