Google has finally rolled out an upload-and-analyze feature to Gemini, and is now available to all users, regardless of subscription tier.
The update, which applies across the web, Android, and iOS platforms, allows free users to upload files directly from their devices or Google Drive for analysis and summarization.
Both on the web and in-app, simply tap on the “+” icon > tap on ‘Files’ > then select a file or a document you want Gemini to analyze.
Users can either upload direcly from the device or via Google Drive with a cap of 10 files per upload. Once the cap is reached, users need to wait a few hours for the limit to reset.
Paid subscribers still enjoy a higher token limit, enabling them to handle up to one million tokens.
While free users can upload a variety of file types (e.g. plain text or PDF) for summarization and analysis, certain formats—such as spreadsheets and code files—are still reserved for those with a paid subscription.
Additionally, advanced capabilities like Deep Research, custom Gems, Saved Info, and Recall are locked behind the USD 20PHP 1,169INR 1,734EUR 19CNY 146 per month Gemini Advanced plan.
Google first introduced the upload-and-analyze feature late last year, but access to such tool was previously gated behind the premium subscription.
