Google Messages rolls out new contacts page

Google Messages has begun to roll out a new contacts page available for beta users.

According to this report 28 , the new Google Messages contact page has been made available in the span of two weeks. Upon availability, a prompt will notify users of how they can ‘tap for photos, videos & links shared in this conversation’.

Apart from clicking the contact photo or name in the app bar, you can also access it from a conversations overflow menu into details. This has not been launched for stable users yet.

The report changelog noted that previously, tapping the photo and name at the top of a conversation would open their Google Contacts entry. Now, it opens an in-app page from Google Messages.

Users get a centered profile photo, name, and number up top. This is followed by shortcuts to make calls, open your contacts tab, and search.

‘Images’ are straightforward, and take users to a grid view. It’s advised to play around with the new animated Material 3 carousel. Google Messages is the first app from the company to implement this feature.

Instead of your ten last recent images in the carousel being of the same size, ‘items expand and shrink upon scrolling’. Their shapes change from rounded rectangles, squares, and vertical pills. You can also see ‘videos, links & more, and starred’ messages from here.

Next, a card with a shortcut to your notifications, a toggle for ‘only sending SMS & MMS messages’, and ‘block & report’ spam.

Google makes the end-to-end encryption status stand out with the ability to ‘verify encryption’. The ‘people’ section is also of use in group conversations.

Google Messages’ new contacts page has not widely rolled out yet. While it is beginning to appear for beta users, we’ll let you guys know of its wider availability soon.
