Google and Samsung have announced to bring the best of Wear and Tizen into a unified platform.
As per Google, the collaboration has made apps startup 30% faster on the latest chipsets with smooth user interface animations and motion. In terms of battery life, they have worked to optimize the lower layers of the operating system—taking advantage of lower-power hardware cores that enable better battery life. In addition, Google and Samsung’s unified platform will make it easier for developers to build apps for the watch.
Google has made it faster than ever to get things done. According to Google, users can access shortcuts to important functions from anywhere in the watch, like switching between your previous app.
There are also more ways to customize your home screen carousel with Tiles from your apps like Calm, Sleep Cycle, and Flo—easily choosing what information is displayed at a glance.
Additionally, Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Pay are being redesigned and improved—with Google Pay to support 26 more countries. YouTube Music will also arrive on the Wear later this year, equipped with features like smart downloads for subscribers.
Moreover, this isn’t just for Google and Samsung. All device makers will be able to add a customized user experience on top of the platform. Developers will be able to use the Android tools they already know to build for one ecosystem. Meaning new tools and developers, like TilesAPI, watch face design editor, Strava, Adidas Running, Bitmoji, and more, will be coming to the platform.
These updates will begin rolling out later this year. So stick around for more updates on this!
