The first Made by Google smartwatch will be called the”‘Pixel Watch” according to patent filing dated April 19, 2022 thru United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Patent details of the “Pixel Watch” covers specifically smartwatches and smartwatch accessories. “PIXEL WATCH™ trademark registration is intended to cover the categories of smartwatches; cases adapted for holding smartwatches; wearable computers in the nature of smartwatches; smartwatch straps; smartwatch bands,” the trademark application detailed.
As the name suggests, Google implies its intent for the wearable to be a companion for their Pixel phones lineup, bringing more people into Google’s internet of things, or simply Google’s ecosystem.
The Google smartwatch is expected to be announced at Google I/O developer event next month, and of course, leaks have already been surfacing on the web ahead of possible launch.
In an article by Android Central, leaked images show the ‘final design’ of the Google Pixel Watch featuring a minimalist design, a rotatable crown, and two potentially ‘hidden’ buttons for further controls. Upon looking at the straps, the proprietary ‘Google band’ resembles the jelly-like Apple Watch sports bands.
The most intriguing part though is that the source who sent the leaked images to Android Central claimed that the Pixel Watch prototype was ‘left and found’ at a restaurant in the United States.
UI renders have also leaked previously. 9to5Google shows a gallery of supposed ‘Pixel Watch’ (codenamed as ‘Rohan’) watchfaces that closely follows the Material You design with overall dark theming.
Moreover, the Pixel Watch is said to feature an integrated functionality with Wear OS 3 and Fitbit, serving as a direct competitor against Apple Watch.
We shall get more information as the so-called Pixel Watch is unveiled sooner or later. Google has not been officially releasing Pixel smartphones in the Philippines… so does the ‘Pixel Watch’? Stay tuned for updates.
It’s just a re-packaged Fitbit. It brings nothing new to the table.
