Google’s Generative AI in Search expands to 120 countries, territories

Google on Wednesday announced that its Generative AI in Search 37 has now expanded to 120 new countries and territories, including the Philippines.

With Generative AI in Search, specifically through Search Generative Experience (SGE), users can find what they’re searching for in ‘faster, easier ways’.

SGE was initially exclusive in the US, then just recently in India and Japan. Now, they’ve added more places in APAC and EMEA. See the full list here 55 .

This is the largest expansion yet on Google’s SGE, bringing AI-generated overview that is conveniently placed inside users’ search queries.

SGE is not enabled by default though. To activate it, simply go to Search Labs 115 and toggle SGE to enable it. Afterward, a ‘Generate’ button will appear on certain search queries that will give an ‘AI-powered overview’ of a search query.

Currently, it only works via Google Chrome on desktop. And in the coming weeks, Google will also provide access to iOS and Android via Google app.

Furthermore, users can also ask follow-up questions right from the search results. Clicking one of the follow-up questions will take the user to another page to continue asking, and a text box to type-in more follow-up questions.

Alongside the expansion, Google also added support for four new languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, and Indonesian. Other supported languages are English of course, Hindi, and Japanese.

SGE will get more updates in the coming weeks, such as underlined words that have multiple meanings, and highlighted words on relevant searches about coding and health. These updates will be launching first in the US, then with more countries to follow.
