The HMD Fusion is now official, highlighted with its modular smartphone design with what the brand calls Fusion outfits.
Fusion outfits work as interchangeable covers that offer different features like wireless charging, improved protection, or even a ring light. These attach to the device via Smart Pins on the back of the device.
HMD lets users 3D print their own designs via the open-source HMD Fusion Development Toolkit. However, sales of first-party Fusion outfits will appear later this year.
The smartphone has a semi-transparent plastic shell that supports easy repairs like the HMD Skyline. This provides users with easier access to the device battery, screen, and other key components.
For hardware, the phone sports a 6.56-inch IPS LCD with HD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 90Hz. It’s powered by a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 and has configurations with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage.
Optics include a 108-megapixel main camera paired with a 2-megapixel depth sensor. It also comes equipped with a 50-megapixel front-facing camera. The main sensor offers EIS and features a dedicated night mode for shooting, RAW image processing, and AI HDR.
The phone will run on Android 14 out of the box. HMD promises two (2) years of OS upgrades and three (3) years of security patches. Lastly, it packs a 5,000mAh battery with support for 33W of wired charging via USB Type-C.
The HMD Fusion will start at EUR 249 (~PHP 15.5K), debuting in Europe prior to its US release. We’ll let readers know if the device would ever be bound for the Philippines.
