Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) has announced on February 22, 2020, that they will be stopping production operations in its Sta. Rosa Laguna Plant effective March 2020.
After almost 30 years of production, HCPI will no longer be making passenger cars, BR-V, and City locally. HCPI President Noriyuki Takakura said, “To meet Honda’s customer needs in the Philippines for reasonably priced and good quality products, Honda considered efficient allocation and distribution of resources. As such, after consideration of optimization efforts in the production operations in Asia and Oceania region, Honda decided to close the manufacturing operations of HCPI.”
HCPI’s automobile sales, and after-sales service, however, will continue its operation through Honda’s Asia and Oceania regional network.
Honda is yet to comment on what will happen to the (approximately) 650 associates and infrastructure currently in place. If you want to read more, you can check out HCPI’s official statement here.
