Honda Philippines announces voluntary recall for 10,461 vehicles

Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) announced today a recall of select vehicles in the country as part of the company’s global campaign to address a severe defect in the Takata front airbag inflators that said vehicles carry.

The specific vehicles affected are the 2013 models of the City, Jazz, and Pilot sold in the Philippines between 2012 and 2015. According to Honda, “the affected airbag inflators might deploy with excessive internal pressure when activated.” This could lead to the rupture of the actual inflator casing, which the company claims “could cause serious injury or death in the worst case to vehicle occupants.”

Model# of affected vehicles
City8,520
Jazz1,769
Pilot172
Total10,461

Be sure to take a look at the table of information of vehicles part of the recall, provided by Honda:

Honda owners are urged to check if their vehicle is affected by going to the recall webpage here. Those with affected vehicles may contact or set an appointment with any of the 37 authorized Honda Car dealerships and 3 authorized service centers in the country, or by contacting them at their dedicated hotline – (02) 857-7240, or sending an email to update@hondaphil.com.

HCPI has said that the replacement of the front airbag inflator in affected vehicles is free of charge and will take about one hour.
