It’s now official: Huawei‘s next-generation Mate 20 series is getting its grand unveiling in October.
This was announced during the conference for the new HiSilicon Kirin 980 chip earlier today. The announcement also confirms that Huawei will place its big bets again by staging a separate event after this week’s IFA in Berlin. The Mate 20 series will also be one of the first devices to sport the said chipset alongside Honor’s Magic 2 flagship slated for a later reveal.
Huawei will reveal the Mate 20 in London, which was also home to several of its past launches, most notably the P9 and P9 Plus with dual Leica co-engineered lenses. October 16 is also significant for the company as it announced the Mate 10 in Munich at the same date last year. Earlier shots of the Mate 20, and possibly its Mate 20 Pro sibling, suggest that these devices strengthening their camera capabilities by sporting triple rear camera setups in rather unusual locations than we’re used to.
