The iPhone 16 Series has been banned from sales in Indonesia. This was confirmed by Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita as he said Apple is required to fulfill requirements before selling.
To elaborate, the tech giant has yet to comply with investment commitments in the country. This includes renewing the TKDN 95, which is the country’s local content requirement certification.
The minister also noted that Apple was only able to provide IDR 1.48 trillion. For context, the company has an existing commitment of IDR 1.71 trillion. Furthermore, Apple’s TKDN validity has already expired.
Until the initial commitment is resolved, the company can’t renew their license. However, the minister has alluded that Apple may have to make additional investments for it to be renewed.
If so, Apple would be eligible for a 40% TKDN value. This enables the entry of the iPhone 16 Series in the country. Of course, this goes along with other Apple products that use mobile networks in the country.
