“Lazada is one of the first Southeast Asian eCommerce companies to integrate ChatGPT in Azure OpenAI Service into our chatbot. We are pleased to provide our users with LazzieChat as part of our continuous investment in technology to build a high-quality digital ecosystem that is set up for long-term growth,” said Lazada Group’s Chief Technology Officer, Howard Wang. “Online shopping journeys are becoming more dynamic with the help of technology. We want to bridge the gap between offline and online shopping by providing high-quality experiences that consumers love, and create value for brands and sellers who can tap into new technologies to reach out to a wider audience. We are confident AI will drive new developments in making online shopping and selling a seamless daily activity for everyone.”

“By combining the scale and power of Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service with the breadth of Lazada’s consumer reach, this collaboration will transform the shopping journey for Lazada’s customers, sellers, and brands. We’re excited to help Lazada welcome a new era of retail innovation with Microsoft Cloud. By adopting artificial intelligence, Lazada will deliver personalized recommendations, enhance the customer experience, provide faster customer assistance, and transform the buying experience in APAC,” said CTO of Microsoft in Asia Pacific Diomedes Kastanis.

Fast-moving consumer goods sectors like fashion and cosmetics, which are among the most popular things bought on Lazada, can benefit from LazzieChat. The 24/7 availability of LazzieChat makes it a valuable resource for brands and sellers on the Lazada marketplace. It also helps enhance product visibility.

LazzieChat utilizes both Azure OpenAI Service’s natural language processing capabilities as well as Lazada’s own AI platform and technology. It can comprehend queries, offer logical responses, and propose pertinent products or topics that the user would find interesting. It can also search up product descriptions and link products available on Lazada right in the chat interface, assisting customers in making quick, confident purchases.

In Singapore, the Philippines, and Indonesia, LazzieChat—named after the lion mascot of Lazada—is accessible in English. The latter country also receives a Bahasa Indonesia version. More languages will be added in due time. To access LazzieChat, slide down from the Lazada app’s home screen.

Lazada is aware of the difficulties in developing natural language chatbots, even though LazzieChat’s algorithms follow the company’s trust and safety criteria. Lazada improves LazzieChat’s algorithms so they can identify hazardous content and respond to user requests in a morally and appropriately relevant manner.
