Apple has just updated their Mac Pro and Mac Studio machines with all-new Apple Silicon. In particular, both machines will debut Apple’s newest M2 Ultra processor.
Let’s take a look at each new product, starting with the new M2 Ultra CPU.
Apple says the M2 Ultra is their largest chip ever, which turns out to be the by-product of two M2 Max chips connected together — essentially doubling performance.
The M2 Ultra supports up to 192GB of RAM, which Apple says is 50 percent more than the M1 Ultra. It also features 800GB/s of memory bandwidth, a larger GPU that’s up to 30% faster, and a Neural Engine that’s up to 40% faster.
The 24-core CPU of the M2 Ultra consists of 16 high-performance cores and 8 high-efficiency cores. Meanwhile, the GPU can be configured with 60 or 76 next-generation cores.
Both the new Mac Pro and the new Mac Studio can carry the new M2 Ultra processor.
Moving on, let’s take a look at the new Mac Pro.
As mentioned earlier, the M2 Ultra on the Mac Pro carries with it 24 CPU cores, 76 GPU cores, 800 GB/s of memory bandwidth, up to 192 GB of RAM, support for up to 8 displays, and the ability to playback 22 streams of 8K ProRes footage.
The new Mac Pro will also feature seven expansion slots, six of which will be PCIe gen 4.
It will also have eight Thunderbolt ports, two HDMI ports that support 48 GBps HDMI, and support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
The new Mac Pro with the M2 Ultra chip will start at Php 449,990 and will be available on store shelves starting June 13.
Lastly, we have the new Mac Studio which can be purchased with either an M2 Max or an M2 Ultra.
Choosing the M2 Ultra variant will net you the same performance benefits: support for up to 8 displays, up to 22 streams of 8K ProRes video playback, H.264, HEVC, and ProRes encode and decode.
With the new Mac Studio, we get four Thunderbolt 4 ports, one HDMI, one 10Gb ethernet port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and two USB-A ports.
The new Mac Studio will start at a price of Php 129,990 and will be available to purchase starting June 13.
