Mastercard is preparing to enter the Metaverse and non-fungible token (NFT) market as seen in its recent filings with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
According to Cointelegraph, Mastercard’s filings include plans for a virtual community for digital assets, processing of payments in the Metaverse, an online marketplace for digital goods, and virtual reality events, among others.
There’s also a trademark filing for the company’s “Priceless” slogan to also represent digital goods such as “downloadable multimedia files containing artwork, text, audio, and video authenticated by NFTs.”
As of writing, information regarding Mastercard’s move to the Metaverse and NFT market is limited as the company is yet to release an official statement or announcement.
