When it comes to Virtual Reality (VR) headsets, the Apple Vision Pro is easily one of the most popular models today following its announcement last June. But it seems Meta 115 wants in on the spotlight too. Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg has just revealed the new Quest 3 VR headset, and it is one of the more affordable VR headsets to hit the market.
Compared to the Apple Vision Pro, which retails for USD 3,500, the Meta Quest 3 VR headset is a lot more affordable starting at USD 500. Like its predecessors, the Quest 3 covers the eyes and even the sides of the face to give a more immersive experience. Unlike before though, Meta says the Quest 3 the Quest 3 also relies on mixed reality more, which means users will be able to see more of the real world rather than just black when not in use.
Powering the Quest 3 is the new Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset, which according to Meta offers “lightning fast” load times and “incredibly crisp details”. In short, you get better graphics performance if you’ve ever used to older model. There are two variants available as well – a 128GB which retails for USD 500 and a 256GB model for USD 650.
Aside from being more powerful, Meta also made the Quest 3 lighter and slimmer than before, making it more comfortable to wear. There are also updated optics that further enhance user experience. A new 4K “Infinite Display” increases the resolution by up to 30% compared to the Quest 2 along with better spatial audio.
Users can even seamlessly transition between a fully immersive experience and a blended environment with virtual elements overlaid by double-tapping the side of the headset. One example Meta uses is the capability to play a virtual piano on your coffee table or open a portal to another dimension right in your living room.
There are also various accessories available to customize the Meta Quest 3. These include different straps, silicone interfaces, and even prescription lenses for users who require glasses.
The Meta Quest 3 is set to hit shelves in October, but pre-orders are now available. Given how affordable it is compared to the Apple Vision Pro, would you consider the Meta Quest 3? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
