Microsoft has just announced that on July 29, 2024, the Xbox 360 Store on console and Xbox 360 Marketplace (marketplace.xbox.com) will be closing and losing support on the ability for users to purchase new games, DLC, and entertainment content.
Moreover, Microsoft also announced that the Microsoft Moveis & TV app will no longer function on the Xbox 360, meaning TV and movie content can no longer be viewed on any Xbox 360 by July 29, 2024.
Until then, users can still continue to purchase games and DLC from the Xbox 360 Store and Marketplace.
What’s significant though is that Microsoft said that even though it will be closed by then, it will not affect your ability to play Xbox 360 games or DLC you have already purchased, this includes also multiplayer games as long as the publisher still supports the online servers.
This means that Xbox 360 game content previously purchased will still be available to play on the Xbox 360 console as well as on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S via backward compatibility.
There will also be no impact on purchasing or playing backward-compatible Xbox 360 titles as you may still purchase backward-compatible Xbox 360 and Original Xbox games and DLC on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Xbox.com.
