A ton of announcements were lined up for this year’s Microsoft Surface Copilot Plus PC event. As the name suggests, the event headline is their introduction of a new category of Copilot Plus PC Surface Laptops 11.
These are AI-centric devices with at least 40 TOPS on tap, capable of running AI tasks locally. This is for latency and privacy purposes. Microsoft has also partnered with Samsung, Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, who have introduced their takes for Copilot+ PCs.
These brands have produced laptops and the like all powered by the Snapdragon X chip courtesy of Qualcomm. Likewise, the Microsoft Surface Laptop is powered by either the Snapdragon X Elite or the Snapdragon X Plus.
The former has a 12-core CPU, with the latter having 10 cores. However, both chips deliver 45 TOPS of AI computing power with a Copilot+ badge. They’re both light, thin, portable, yet powerful devices equipped with the best of Windows 11’s AI features.
The Microsoft Surface Laptops come in two sizes, 13.8-inches and 15-inches. The former is equipped with the Snapdragon X Plus chip, while the latter comes with the Snapdragon X Elite chip.
Both variants have 3:2 touchscreens with a 201 ppi pixel density. They also feature dynamic refresh rates up to 120Hz, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The laptop enclosures are made out of 67% recycled materials, inclusive of anodized aluminum for a more durable surface finish.
The 13.8-inch model weighs 1.34kg (2.96lbs), measuring 16.5mm (0.69-inches) thick with a 54Wh battery lasting up to 20 hours. Meanwhile, the 15-inch laptop is 1.66kg (3.67lbs) and 18.3mm (0.72-inches) thick with a 66Wh battery lasting up to 22 hours.
Charging with their respective adapters is done with 39W and 65W, respectively.
The 13.8-inch laptop with the X Plus chip comes with configurations of 16GB of RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage. Meanwhile, the 15-inch device with the X Elite chip has a 16GB/512GB minimum.
Both laptops have two USB Type-C ports each, which are USB 4 and DisplayPort 2.1 compatible. Both also have a single USB Type-A 3.1 port, an audio port, and a microSD card slot. In addition, there’s also a Surface connect port for the Surface Dock.
Wireless connectivity features include WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. Besides wired or wireless earphones, you may also use its Omnisonic Speakers with Dolby Atmos support.
Another neat feature the Surface Laptop has is its dedicated Copilot button. Some of its features are Recall and Cocreator. Recall serves as a tool that helps you pull up a document, website, or app you need via a timeline.
Cocreator, on the other hand, gives users a rough creative outline in the form of a sketch or text description. The Snapdragon X chip and a smaller local AI model will aid you in making beautiful images without involving cloud services.
You may also use the Restyle Image app to take an existing image. Users can transform this into any art style they can imagine.
The Snapdragon X chips can also be used by third-party apps like Photoshop, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut, Cephable, LiquidText, djay Pro, and more.
Presently, the Microsoft Laptops are available for pre-order now, with shipping starting on June 18th.
The smaller model is available in Sapphire, Dune, Black, and Platinum colorways. Meanwhile, the larger model only has Black or Platinum as color options. We’ll provide prices with conversions below, because memory configurations are a variable for these devices. What do you guys think of Microsoft’s Copilot Plus PC Surface Laptops?
