MWC Shanghai: HONOR unveils new AI-powered features

At MWC Shanghai, HONOR unveiled their newest industry-first AI-powered Deepfake Detection and Defocus Eye Protection features.

HONOR’s AI Deepfake Detection works to analyze frame-by-frame information. This includes eye contact, lighting, image clarity, and video playback.

It identifies inconsistencies that the human eye could miss, and then warns HONOR device users immediately. In addition, this feature’s algorithm has been trained through a large dataset of media relative to online scams.

This enables the on-device AI to perform at a high level in identifying, screening, and comparing within seconds.

Deepfakes have become a growing security risk for netizens in the modern digital age. Issues from this range from fraud to sexual exploitation, with tech companies working on means to mitigate and solve this problem.

As for HONOR’s newest AI Defocus Eye Protection technology, it utilizes AI to simulate defocus glasses on smart device displays.

Users may benefit by getting immediate vision relief from their screen. It alleviates the need for users to wear defocus glasses, which is better for eye health.

HONOR labs’ data notes that this feature is capable of decreasing users’ transient myopia by 13 degrees on average. This is after reading for 25 minutes, with users experiencing a maximum reduction of 75 degrees. The company has been on a roll this year with their developments, so stock should be up on their devices soon enough.
