New features have been announced for YouTube Premium subscribers. These include a new jump ahead button, picture-in-picture mode, and smart downloads for Shorts.
At the time of writing, these are currently available in the US for Android users. However, YouTube is working on expanding to the iOS platform over the coming weeks.
The new jump ahead button automatically skips to a video’s next segment. This could be used for skipping to interesting parts in videos, or just cutting through in-video ads.
Jumping ahead uses AI and viewership data, working by double-tapping a video.
Next, we have the new straightforward picture-in-picture mode. This allows users to watch content while multitasking.
The last added feature is still experimental, which is smart downloads for YouTube Shorts. It uses conversational AI to cater to prompts, suggesting relative content without interrupting the user.
Users may access this via an “Ask” button under select videos.
Another relative change is a redesign to the Watch page, which is exclusive to web users. On a side note, YouTube noted that they will offer more improvements soon for users to find relative content.
