Nintendo has stated that they will shut down their Nintendo eShop for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS on March 27, 2023. It will also no longer be possible to download new free content, including game demos.
The Nintendo eShop Card will no longer be able to add cash to an account on the Nintendo eShop for Wii U or Nintendo 3DS as of August 29, 2022, but download vouchers can still be redeemed until March 27, 2023.
Before the ability to buy content expires on Monday, March 27, 2023, Nintendo advises all customers to use any cash in their Nintendo 3DS and/or Wii U eShop balance.
Users can use the funds to buy content on any of these consoles and systems until 27 March 2023 if they have linked their Nintendo Network ID funds (used on the Nintendo eShop for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS) with the funds attached to their Nintendo Account (used on the Nintendo Switch eShop). Following that, the money can only be used on Nintendo Switch content.
No changes are planned on Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch.
The changes made to the Nintendo eShop for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS will also be reflected in any applications available for purchase on these platforms, such as StreetPass Mii Plaza, the Theme Shop, and Nintendo Badge Arcade.
For Wii U consoles and Nintendo 3DS devices, it will still be available to redownload games and DLC, get software upgrades, and take advantage of online play even after March 27, 2023, and for the foreseeable future.
