Opensignal has recently released their report that shows the results of their most recent benchmarks in Global 5G experience, with the Philippines mentioned as one of the countries that gained significant improvements in 5G experience.
According to Opensignal, the Philippines continues to see a tremendous uplift with the shift from 4G to 5G. While the Philippines is not included in the 5G Global Top 15 in terms of speed, it is number 3 in terms of 5G vs 4G Download Speed Improvement (ratio) with a score of 8.8 (topped by Chile at 9.0 and Malaysia with 25.7) and number 1 in terms of 5G vs 4G Video Experience Improvement at 79% (followed by Malaysia at 73%) with a 5G Video Experience score of 68.6. In terms of speed, the Philippines registered a 5G Download Speed of 138.6 Mbps.
To compare, South Korea leads in 5G Download Speed at 432.7 Mbps while Taiwan leads in 5G Peak Download Speed at 922.5 Mbps. Malaysia has the highest registered 5G Upload Speed at 50.3 Mbps.
“While users have been embracing the 5G experience in increasingly large numbers and operators have been deploying the initial versions of 5G, the industry has been looking to what’s next. 5G release 16 and 17 are now final and will be deployed over the next couple of years, while work on Release 18 is already advancing fast. As with 4G/LTE, there will be new marketing terms used to describe these upcoming 5G standards,” Opensignal said in its report.
“Again, as we saw with the terms “LTE Advanced” and “LTE Advanced Pro” in the second phase of the 4G era we will likely see vendors and operators market these enhanced versions of 5G using the phrase “5G Advanced”. However, the most important test will continue to be the extent to which these new flavors of 5G improve — or actually advance — the real-world experience of users.”
