OPPO A16: A smart choice for those on a budget

Entry-level smartphones have evolved from being a budget-friendly option to a smartphone with more features, making them a smart choice for many. The OPPO A16 is a good example, and here’s why.

Large 6.52-inch screen

The good thing about entry-level smartphones nowadays is that large screens are now common. In the case of the OPPO A16, it has a 6.52-inch display with HD+ resolution (1600 x 720) or 269ppi, which is a decent resolution for its size. It also has an IPS panel for accurate colors and wide viewing angles.

The benefit of these features is that it makes the A16 a good device for watching videos or playing mobile games. It will satisfy casual users who frequently watch videos on YouTube, browse Facebook and TikTok, or play popular online multiplayer games. With this, the A16 is a portable entertainment device.

Capable MediaTek Helio G35 chipset

The Helio G35 is a 12nm chipset designed by MediaTek for mainstream gaming smartphones. The A16 is not exactly a “gaming” smartphone, but since it is equipped with this chipset, it shows that the device is capable of handling light to moderate gaming.

It features an octa-core CPU clocked at a maximum of 2.3GHz, an IMG PowerVR GE8320, up to 4GB of RAM, and up to 64GB of storage which can be expanded via its microSD card slot. It also has dual-SIM and 4G LTE, so you’re always connected.

Versatile cameras

Remember back in the day when budget smartphones only had a single camera? Well, the OPPO A16 is an exception as it has three cameras: a 13MP main, a 2MP mono for depth sensing, and a 2MP for macro. For the front camera, it has an 8MP shooter.

This shows that the A16 can be used as a daily camera for uploading images on social media. You can take photos normally, use portrait mode for some bokeh, or get up close on tiny subjects with the macro camera so you can show a different world not easily noticeable in our daily lives.

If you want to vlog, the cameras can shoot up to 1080p at 30 fps. The front camera can even record 720p at 30 fps with beautification turned on.

Large 5,000mAh battery

One of the things that budget smartphones should have is a large battery. This is because these kinds of smartphones should work like daily drivers that can last a long time. Given the power-efficient chipset and HD+ screen, it can provide you with over 21 hours of YouTube streaming.

Or you can do what I do and use the A16 as a hotspot for my other devices like tablets and laptops. That way, I can take advantage of the A16’s large battery and keep my devices connected all the time via WiFi.

Affordable price

The OPPO A16 with 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage is now available for just PHP 7,499. If you’re shopping at leading e-commerce stores, you can even spot it at a discounted price. Interested buyers may also purchase it through Home Credit. Just pay a 10% downpayment for an 18-months installment.

So, if you’re a casual user looking for a heavy-duty smartphone for light to moderate uses, the OPPO A16 is #TheSmartChoice.
