After OnePlus announced its new update policy earlier this month, its sister brand Oppo followed suit and will also be extending software support starting with select 2023 flagships.
The new update policy now provides four (4) major Android updates and five (5) years of security patches for specific models. Currently, its latest OS iteration ColorOS 13 (based on Android 13) has been rolling out to users until the first half of next year.
The brand shared that this rollout has been the fastest with a 50% increase on supported devices as compared to ColorOS 12.
We achieved our fastest rollout ever this year with #ColorOS13.
Thank you for your incredible support 💙— ColorOS (@colorosglobal) December 20, 2022
Both ColorOS and OxygenOS run on the same codebase, thus the news came as expected. But having an extended software support means that we can keep our phone for longer.
Samsung is the first to implement the four OS major update policy, while Google seems to lag behind with only three major updates. Apple on the other hand provides up to seven years of iOS software support.
