OPPO releases its 2022 Sustainability Report

On World Environment Day this year, OPPO unveils its 2022 Sustainability Report. Since 2020, OPPO has been open about its plans for reaching sustainability objectives and the actions it has already taken. In five crucial areas of sustainability—operation and compliance, environment preservation, employee care, virtuous innovation, and ecosystem engagement—OPPO has made considerable strides, according to the report. This reinforces OPPO’s dedication to sustainability as a corporate citizen of the world.

Virtuous innovation: making technology accessible and beneficial to all people

OPPO consistently invests in R&D as a multi-national technology firm with operations in over 60 nations and territories. By the end of 2022, OPPO had been granted more than 44,000 patents. According to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), OPPO was one of the top 6 PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty) registrants in 2022.

According to OPPO’s mission statement, “Technology for Mankind, Kindness for the World,” everyone should benefit from technology. In the age of digital transformation, it promises to increase digital inclusion and make sure that no one is left behind.

The Kids Space feature was introduced by OPPO with the ColorOS 13 in 2022. Its goal is to prevent kids from using game apps excessively and to encourage them to use their phones in a more beneficial way. Simple Mode, a user-friendly experience with larger icons and fonts and a more compact desktop on OPPO smartphones, makes smartphone use easier for senior citizens.

One of the most important fields of research at OPPO is health. Using technology and digital health monitoring methods, OPPO aims to help people live healthier lives.

The OHealth H1, OPPO’s first health product with a focus on tracking family health, was introduced in 2022. It can provide complete health management and remote healthcare services for the entire family thanks to its six different types of health data monitoring features, which include blood oxygen measurement, ECG, heart and lung auscultation, heart rate, body temperature, and sleep quality tracking.

Environment protection: Working towards a greener future

OPPO’s business strategy interweaves environmental protection and sustainability. The first global inventory of greenhouse gas emissions was finished by OPPO in 2022. With this in mind, OPPO created its roadmap for carbon reduction and declared its intention to become carbon neutral across all of its operations by the year 2050 in February 2023. Through technology and innovation, OPPO is moving toward a greener future, from the decarbonization of manufacturing to lowering the carbon impact of its products.

Beginning with the European market in 2022, OPPO included the greening idea into the packaging of their smartphones by using nearly 100% biodegradable materials and 45% recycled fibers.

One of the most important aspects of OPPO’s product lifestyle management has long been recycling electronic waste. In China in 2022, 1.08 million phones totaling 195 tons were recycled. In order to assist in the recycling of used goods in the EU and other regions, OPPO takes part in the Green Dot project and works with knowledgeable recycling businesses.

The company’s choice to adopt a green development strategy in its production facilities, data centers, and offices was also influenced by the low-carbon development path. By the end of 2022, OPPO’s annual greenhouse gas emissions from operations will have lowered by 6000 tons as a result of energy-saving and emission-reduction initiatives. This is comparable to the annual absorption capacity of a forest covering 3,330 square kilometers. Additionally, the OPPO AndesBrain (Binhaiwan Bay) IDC began using only renewable energy in 2022.

By taking these particular steps, OPPO is collaborating with its users and the industry to move forward toward a sustainable future.

Sustainability is a long journey that required joint efforts with ecosystem partners

The key components of OPPO’s commitment to sustainable development are beneficial innovation and environmental protection, but it goes far beyond than that. OPPO cherishes its people, conducts business ethically as a global corporate citizen, and is committed to long-term operations and compliance. OPPO has operations in more than 60 countries and regions.

Goals for sustainable development must be attained through effective planning and management. OPPO will create a Sustainability Management Committee to direct and control the business’s growth. Despite the fact that the road to sustainability is long and necessitates a collaborative effort, OPPO aspires to contribute alongside its ecosystem partners.

The OPPO Inspiration Challenge was launched in May 2022 to collect innovative ideas for accessible technology and digital health solutions and to help business owners and technology specialists realize innovative ideas. 536 recommendations were made for the project, covering a wide range of topics from mental health to mechanical glass that can be blinding and deafening. These suggestions came from 39 countries and territories.

The OPPO Inspiration Challenge will continue to support and inspire IT professionals and businesses in 2023. The Challenge is searching for creative suggestions for digital health, accessible technology, and green technology under the two headings of “Inspiration for People” and “Inspiration for the Planet.”

Sustainability is not just a notion associated with World Environment Day at OPPO; it is a long-term commitment and practice. According to OPPO, technology can help everyone and the environment through innovation and collaboration.
