Public school students of Pasig City will receive tablets for online learning starting October 1.
According to Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, the tablets are set to arrive in the city on or before September 30, while the distribution will be on October 1. This is part of Pasig LGU’s ongoing projects to support the needs of students amidst the pandemic. Mayor Sotto also mentioned that the supplier will be penalized with millions of pesos if it fails to deliver the tablets on the said date. This is to ensure that students will also receive the tablets at the most possible time.
Mayor Sotto also shared the photo of the tablet on the comment section of a post from his official Facebook page. The blue one is for high school students, while the gray one is for elementary students.
Moreover, the Pasig City education department is also continuously developing the modules for the blended learning methods. Other than this, the said city also provided risograph machines to public schools for the printing of learning materials as well as internet centers installed with high-speed computer network access for teachers and parents who do not have an internet connection at home. This is for them to be able to download distance learning modules for students. The centers can be used alternately every after two weeks to maintain physical distancing protocols.
On the other hand, teachers also have undergone training for digital learning for the opening of classes. The city government will also fund the initiatives for the distance learning method, as well as laptops for public school teachers.
Also, Pasig City now has 18,000 scholarship grantees. The scholars will be receiving their allowances through electronic payments via PayMaya for contactless distribution. The scholarship program will also be extended to more 3,000 indigent students from private schools according to the City Mayor.
