Google’s first attempt at a foldable phone, the Pixel Fold, arrived last year with a hefty price tag and some lukewarm reviews. Now, it seems Google is ready to take another crack at the foldable market, but with a surprising twist.
According to a new report, Google ditches the “Pixel Fold 2” moniker entirely. The search giant is apparently rebranding its next foldable as the “Pixel 9 Pro Fold”, folding it right into the Pixel 9 family.
This move suggests Google might be looking to position foldables as a core part of its Pixel lineup, not a separate experiment.
This rebranding also lines up with rumors of a major Pixel launch event this October. With the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, a rumored Pixel 9 Pro XL, and now the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, the company could be looking at its biggest Pixel launch ever.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s inclusion hints at a potential shift in Google’s foldable strategy. By integrating it with the Pixel 9 line, Google might be aiming to make foldables feel more mainstream and accessible.
Of course, with a launch still months away, things can always change. But one thing seems clear: Google is betting big on foldables, and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold could be the signal that foldables are here to stay.
