PLDT Enterprise partners with Akamai Technologies Inc. for stepping up its cybersecurity against DDoS extortion threats and attacks targeting the Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) sector.
Due to the impending threats against customers from old actors targeting finance and retails, the need for protection against the new threats is being heightened. The company, however, has stated that they have been taking actions against potential threats.
It has also mentioned that DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks are illegal and malicious attempts to disrupt normal traffic of a targeted server, service, or network by overwhelming the target or its surrounding infrastructure with lots of fake internet traffic called bots, preventing legitimate users from accessing their website.
Moreover, Akamai’s Security Intelligence Research Team (SIRT) has investigated recent DDoS attacks targeting businesses across various sectors. The extortion demands were similar to the previous DDoS ransom groups, where initial contact begins with a threatening email and warning of an impending DDoS attack against the company.
The solutions delivered by PLDT and Akamai aim to protect the customer web or online assets from cybersecurity threats and optimize the performance of their online platforms.
The company further elaborated that PLDT is leveraging Akamai’s most pervasive and highly-distributed CDN with over 285,000 servers in over 130 countries. Akamai’s Edge platform is identified as the world’s largest and most trusted CDN platform to deliver high-quality and secure web experiences. These CDN services are likewise important in helping banks and financial institutions to be more protected against cyber threats.
