PLDT has launched MyOwnWiFi plans that provide users a secondary connection with the same speed as their base plan at half the price.
PLDT offers a chance to create a secondary plan under the original base plan that comes with 1 Mesh WiFi device. This connection may be used as a dedicated line for work, school, games, and other activities for only half the price of the equivalent base plan speed. The only thing that needs to be done is connect the WiFi Mesh to LAN Port 2 of the existing modem, so no installations are necessary.
The MyOwnWiFi Plan is available with the following configurations:
- 15Mbps – PHP 649
- 50Mbps- PHP 849
- 100Mbps – PHP 1049
- 300Mbps – PHP 1349

If I understand correctly, the two 15Mbps won’t combine to 30Mbps. You’ll still get 15Mbps but the bandwidth will be distributed among the two lines. For example, User 1, who is streaming videos will be allocated to Connection 1, while User 2, who is doing Zoom meetings will be allocated to Connection 2.
Wouldn’t it be better to get another plan from a different provider and use a load balancer to manage the connection? That way, if one service provider goes down, you still have another active connection. You still get exactly the same benefits when both connections are active.
So the secondary plan is on top of the base plan. The lowest which 15Mbps is 1500 + 649 = 2149. For the equivalent of 30Mbps we will pay 2,149. I don’t think this is an improvement, but more of milking more money from consumers.
