President Duterte has finally signed the Philippine Space Act law which seeks to create the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) for space-related activities.
The Philippine Space Act (Republic Act 11363) was approved by the House of Representatives last December 2018 which was called House Bill No. 8541 back then. It aims to support space technology development in the Philippines for the benefit of the Filipinos in terms of national security, outer space research, and the likes.
PhilSA will be the NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) counterpart of the Philippines. The agency will focus on Space Science, Technology Access, and Space Research particularly National Security, Hazard Management, Climate Studies, Space Industry Capacity Building, Space Education, and International Cooperation.
The Clark Special Economic Zone in Pampanga and Tarlac will be PhilSA’s official site. To know more about the Philippine Space Act, read here.
