Qualcomm has announced the launch of three of its upcoming chipsets: the Snapdragon 720G, Snapdragon 662, and Snapdragon 460.
All three chipsets have enhanced connectivity, such as faster 4G speeds, Wi-Fi 6 features, Bluetooth 5.1, and advanced audio via Qualcomm’s FastConnect 6-series subsystems. They also support Dual-Frequency GNSS for better positioning accuracy and the first SoC that supports Navigation with Indian Constellation (or NavIC).
Qualcomm also improved the AI to provide better user experience with photography, voice assistants, and contextual awareness for always-on scenarios using the Qualcomm AI Engine and Qualcomm Sensing Hub.
Here’s a quick rundown on all three chipsets:
Snapdragon 720G
The Snapdragon 720G is a gaming chipset that allows HDR gameplay, dynamic color range, and contrast. It’s Qualcomm aptX Adaptive technology provides users with more immersive sound while the Qualcomm Spectra 350L ISP enables users to stream HDR content. As for the cameras, the Snapdragon 720G is capable of capturing up to 192MP photos, which is processed by Qualcomm’s 5th generation AI Engine. Its LTE modem allows users to download up to 800Mbps, while the FastConnect 6200 subsystem doubles both the WiFi speed and range.
Snapdragon 662
The Snapdragon 662 offers improvements on the camera department with its new Qualcomm Spectra 340T, which allows smooth transitions between three cameras. It also allows capturing photos with the HEIF file format that offers better image quality at half the file size. AI improvements for avatars, night photography, as well as face and voice authentications, are also present on the new chipset. The LTE modem equipped with the Snapdragon 662 peaks at 390Mbps download and 150Mbps upload for a better web browsing and social media experience.
The Snapdragon 460 offers improvements across the CPU, GPU, AI, camera, and connectivity over previous 400-series chipsets. The new architecture is said to improve the CPU by 70% and the GPU by 60%. The LTE modem equipped is the same one on the Snapdragon 662, which is capable of 390Mbps download speed and 150Mbps upload speed.
