Qualcomm has unveiled a follow-on to the flagship Snapdragon 888— the Snapdragon 888+ 5G mobile platform. These two platforms power over 130 designs announced or in development.
According to Qualcomm, Snapdragon 888+ 5G delivers flagship experiences with intelligent entertainment, including AI-enhanced gameplay, streaming, photography, and the like– backed by boosted performance, unrivaled speed, and premium connectivity.
Additionally, the latest mobile platform is equipped with Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, including the Qualcomm Game Quick Touch, reducing touch latency by up to 20%, and updatable drivers for the latest graphics and performance updates in real-time. Also, Natural Language Processing enables responsive voice commands for intelligent, intuitive control while gaming.
With over 20% AI performance upgrade compared to its predecessor, Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon 888+ sports an increased Qualcomm Kryo 680 CPU Prime core clock speed at up to 3.0 GHz and the 6th generation Qualcomm AI Engine with up to 32 TOPS AI performance.
Moreover, the 3rd gen Snapdragon X60 5G Modem-RF System delivers global 5G with download speeds of up to 7.5 Gbps. The FastConnect 6900 Mobile Connectivity System offers multi-gigabit Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E speeds plus advanced multi-user traffic management features.
What’s more, it also boasts 8K encode and decode capabilities for ultra-detailed video capture and viewing. The Qualcomm Spectra 580 ISP also offers simultaneous triple capture of 4K HDR videos or 28 MP photos, with parallel processing up to 2.7 gigapixels per second.
“Snapdragon is synonymous with premium Android experiences. Our latest flagship Snapdragon 888 Plus 5G Mobile Platform will help deliver the premium entertainment, connectivity, and gaming experiences users deserve,” said Christopher Patrick, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Handset Business, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.
The upgraded flagship mobile platform will power smartphones from ASUS, Honor, Motorola, vivo, and Xiaomi. Commercial devices that run under the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ 5G are expected to be unveiled in Q3 2021.
