Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, has now asked that all Tesla employees return back to the office and leave remote work behind.
According to a report by Electrek, the Tesla CEO had sent a chain of emails informing Tesla employees “Remote work is no longer acceptable” and to return back to the office.
The first email Musk had sent, informed employees of his desire to bring back-office work by stating ” Anyone who wishes to do remote work must be in the office for a minimum (and I mean minimum) of 40 hours per week..” or employees must, in Musk’s words, “depart Tesla”.
In the second email titled “To be super clear”, Musk had gone on to explain that the more senior one’s position is, the more visible his or her presence should be. Elon Musk further pointed to the fact that if it weren’t for his decision to live in Tesla’s factory and work alongside his employees, Tesla would’ve been bankrupt a long time ago.
Furthermore, the email also stated if there are “particularly exceptional contributors” on which coming to the office is impossible, Musk would have these exceptions reviewed and approved himself.
Musk noted that other companies are shifting to hybrid and remote work, but criticized them on their work by saying “…when was the last time they shipped a great new product? It’s been a while.”. Elon Musk continues to state that Tesla “…will create and actually manufacture the most exciting and meaningful products of any company on Earth. This will not happen by phoning it in.”
Musk hasn’t seemed to have denied the series of emails as well. When asked by @WholeMarsBlog on Twitter about the emails and people who think coming into work is an antiquated concept. Musk simply responded, “They should pretend to work somewhere else”.
