Samsung has just unveiled the newest prototype in its foldable display technology: a display hinge that can fold 360 degrees.
The “Flex In & Out” 360-degree folding display was showcased by Samsung Display, the Korean giant’s subsidiary company responsible for its screens, at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
According to The Verge, the display can rotate 360 degrees both inward and outward. In addition, it was reported that the Flex In & Out prototype will supposedly have a less visible crease due to its use of Samsung’s new “waterdrop hinge” for its foldable displays.
It can be recalled that this waterdrop hinge structure is rumored to be included in Samsung’s upcoming Z Fold5.
No official reports have been released on whether the Flex In & Out 360-degree foldable screen will be featured in Samsung’s upcoming Z Fold5 but this, and more specifically the waterdrop structure, may be the start of a change in design for the company away from its usual “U-shaped” hinge that was the staple of Galaxy foldable of the past.
