Samsung Wearables: Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra X2, Watch 7 Series, Buds 3 Series

The talk of the town at this year’s Samsung Galaxy Unpacked are the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Despite the subtle visual changes, Samsung did give the phones some hardware upgrades. But these aren’t the only devices that the brand introduced at Galaxy Unpacked.

Samsung also launched their new lineup of wearable devices from watches to earphones, and more. These are perfect if you want to match your new foldable smartphone with some of the brand’s latest gadgets, and we got to try them out.

Probably the biggest news in terms of new Samsung wearables (literally) that we got to check out was the Galaxy Watch Ultra X2. It’s so big, you won’t miss it. Judging by the design, it appears to be around 48-49mm big, making it bigger than your typical wristwatch. As someone who usually wears 41mm wrist watches, I do find it too big for me.

With that, it’s not the best for users who have small wrists since it might look comically large on you. But if those are the kind of watches you like, then go for it. Who am I to stop you right? The rubber strap does feel nice on your wrist, and not to mention it is comfortable. With the orange strap and the large watch, the combo we had reminds me of a Richard Mille. It’s not just me right?

If you plan on wearing this watch outside, you won’t have to worry about not seeing anything on the screen. You have a maximum of 3000 nits peak brightness, ensuring you will see no matter how harsh the sunlight is.

Speaking of outdoors, it is a rugged watch as well. Made out of Grade 4 titanium, Samsung says it can withstand extreme temperatures and harsh outdoor conditions. It’s so rugged that the brand claims it can go up to 9000 meters above sea level and -500 meters below sea level. Simply put, you can climb mountains or go deep sea diving with this watch and it will work.

In addition, you also have a 3nm processor which is one of the first of its kind. Then you also have a dual-GPS system to ensure accurate location all the time. Lastly, the battery allegedly lasts 100 hours with power saving used.

As for the price? It retails for PHP 40,990.

Aside from the Samsung Watch Ultra X2, you also have the regular watch lineup. I mean if you don’t want to spend too much on a smartwatch or find the Watch Ultra X2 too big, then this one might be right up your alley. Specifically, Samsung also showcased the new Watch 7 Series.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 2

Compared to the previous generation Watch 6, Samsung didn’t seem to change much on the Watch 7 series. The design still looks similar to that of before with a rounded design, and it is also available in two sizes 40mm and 44mm. This gives you more flexibility in terms of which size suits your wrist better and of course to match with your outfit.

The new Watch 7 series also comes with a new strap design, which I really like. It’s easy to put on, and the rubber design gives it a rugged and sporty look. Although I am curious how it would look with a NATO strap or a leather one. The one we tried out is in white, but there are other colors available as well.

Most of the changes on the watch appear to be software related. The only major addition would be the all-new BioActive sensor on the Watch 7 series. The new sensor allows for more accurate measurements of your vital signs such as heart rate and more. This also allows you to track sleep patterns and have your own personalized fitness routine.

There are also two variants available to choose from a Bluetooth only version or one with LTE.

As for the price, the Watch 7 starts at PHP 16,990 for the 40mm Watch 7 BT and PHP 18,990 for the 44mm Watch 7 BT. Meanwhile, the 40mm Watch 7 LTE is priced at PHP 19,990.

But enough watches, it’s time to listen to music. Here Samsung has released the new Buds 3 series featuring the standard Buds 3 and the Buds 3 Pro. If you’re used to the design of previous Buds 2 series, Samsung decided to change it up for the Buds 3 series.

Instead of a rounded design, the new Buds 3 series feature a sleeker design with a long, slim stem. It looks a lot nicer with the stem as compared to the rounded design of its predecessor. But I’m sure some of you will have your own opinion. What you won’t argue about is the IP57 resistance for dust and water.

To differentiate the standard Buds 3 from the Buds 3 Pro, the stem on the Buds 3 Pro lights up. But if it is too tacky for you with the lights on, you can turn it off in the settings.

Design is one thing for earbuds, these are earbuds after all so let’s talk about how it sounds. The Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro now feature dual amps and new dual 2-way speakers. You can even tune the earbuds the way you like if you want more bass, treble or more.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Series 1

Given our short time, we weren’t able to play too many songs on the new Buds 3 Pro. However, they do sound great out of the box even without tuning the settings. They have more bass as compared to before, and the new speakers do have a better sound stage. What we did like is the new active noise control.

Specific to the Buds 3 Pro is the new active noise control. You can automatically adjust active noise control based on your surroundings. This means you no longer have to adjust it accordingly on your phone. A good example would be when someone is talking to you, the buds will automatically lower ANC making it easier to hear what people are saying.

Just like the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, you also have real time translations available through the buds. The only catch is that you need to have it paired with the phone and use the new AI translation feature.

For the new Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 series, the standard Buds 3 starts at PHP 8,990 while the Buds 3 Pro retails for PHP 14,990.

Out of the three new wearable devices, which one will you be picking up to match with your new Samsung foldable smartphone? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
