Sky joins other Telcos and LGUs to battle the cable cutting and theft that affects cable TV and internet services.
A joint manifesto was signed by top executives from SKY, Globe Telecom, PLDT and Smart Communications, Streamtech, Metroworks ICT, Eastern Communications, Radius Telecoms, and the Philippine Cable and Telecommunications Association (PCTA) to show their unifying goal to protect their users from these rampant illegal activities to disrupt internet services and cable TV that hugely affect the day to day works of regular users.
“Illegal cable cutting is a disservice to our customers. It leads to disruptions in cable TV and internet service. Together with our customers, we have been victimized by perpetrators who steal and sell the copper wires for profit or recklessly cut and damage our cable wires without regard to the disruption it causes to our internet and cable service. This illegal act robs our customers of the steady internet and cable TV service they need for entertainment and access to information and disrupts connectivity required for work,” the manifesto stated.
SKY’s chief operating officer Claudia Suarez said this is the “first big step in the telco and cable TV industry”. This joint manifesto will fully utilize the resources of all companies to respond quickly to these illegal acts with the help of the proper authorities.
The joint manifesto also stated the implementation of RA 10515 which is known also as the Cable theft Law, it’ll perpetrators either pay heavy fines imposed by the court or face two to five years of imprisonment.
Concerned citizens can report suspected illegal cable cutting activities through www.mysky.com.ph/kontraputol, via Security Hotline number 34499111 (for Mega Manila only), or by messaging SKY’s 24/7 messaging platform KYLA on Viber (mysky.com.ph/kylaofsky), Facebook Messenger (m.me/myskyupdates), and SKY’s official website (mysky.com.ph/message-us).
