Smart Communications is proud to announce that the company has sustained growth in mobile data business with its revenues amounting to Php25.5 billion last year. The mobile data business comprises of mobile internet from Smart Postpaid and Smart Prepaid data offers plus mobile broadband from Smart Bro.
The Php25.5B revenue from last year follows 2015’s Php20.2B which reflects a 26% increase. According to Smart, mobile internet revenues have set the pace with a 42% rise year-on-year to Php17 billion. This influx of affordable smartphones bundled with digital services are the main reasons Smart has achieved this growth.
Apart from that, data revenues now account for 1/3 of the revenue mix from last year as compared to 1/4 from 2015 which makes it a first for the company. Mobile data usage has also seen an improvement to 148,000 terabytes in 2015 which is 49% higher than the year prior to it.
Smart has also been churning out promos in partnership with smartphone manufacturers like OPPO, O+ USA, MyPhone, and Starmobile which come with free data allocation for every top-up. This is one of the reasons why about half of Smart’s 63-million subs have already made the shift to using smartphones.
