Sony has just launched a new mirrorless camera that is designed to eliminate distortions in both photos and videos due to now having a special global shutter with the Sony Alpha 9 III.
The Sony Alpha 9 III is said to be the world’s first full-frame camera to feature a global shutter. This means that it is able to capture all the pixels exposed at the same time to eliminate any distortion.
Most mirrorless cameras feature what is called a rolling shutter that captures pixels row by row, top to bottom. This consequentially leads to image and video distortion when moving at fast speeds.
The slight disadvantage of using a global shutter is that it doesn’t fair too well in low-light settings. However, Sony has included composite RAW shooting to capture multiple images to be merged to be able to shoot at high shutter speeds or portraits in low light up to 51,200 ISO.
It’s also said to feature the world’s first full-frame stacked 24MP CMOS image sensor with a global shutter and combines that with a shutter speed of 1/80000 second making the Alpha 9 III highly capable of capturing fast-moving objects with no distortion.
The Sony Alpha 9 III is capable of shooting continuous bursts up to 120 fps with full AF/AE tracking to help recognize subjects with high precision making it also able to shoot 4K video at 120fps without cropping and with no blackout.
The camera also features a pre-capture function that can be set from 0.0005 to 1 second to capture moments even before releasing the shutter. Moreover, it has a continuous shooting speed boost feature to temporarily boost shutter speed during a continuous burst.
It also features a high-precision image stabilization unit, advanced gyro sensors, and image stabilization algorithms to help capture the most stable shots.
There’s even an Auto Framing feature to automatically crop and adjust the framing to keep the subject in focus.
What’s new also is that the Alpha 9 III comes with a programmable custom button on the front for faster and easier operation of its many features.
The Sony Alpha 9 III is priced at USD 5,999.
