Sony has just signed an agreement with Niantic, Inc, which develops augmented reality mobile games, for a joint collaboration in the area of auditory AR for headphones.
Sony is developing products that allow users to enjoy the sound of the virtual world from headphones while capturing the sounds of the real world, it says. Niantic, the developer of games such as Pokemon GO and Ingress, which utilize AR applications for mobile devices, and is expanding its services around the world.
Both companies say that through the contract, they will combine technologies and aim to implement a gaming experience through headphones that features auditory AR, rather than just visual. They plan to collaborate together on the development of application software for auditory AR, as well as promotion activity in the auditory AR field.
Sony has just announced the Sony LinkBuds, which allows users to both listen to the virtual world and real world for a “Never Off” experience.
