Some users on free tier have noticed that Spotify in-app lyrics are no longer available to them. When attempting to pull up lyrics for a song, a notification popup reportedly appears that reads “Enjoy lyrics on Spotify Premium.”
Spotify, however, was fast to address this. The company says putting in-app lyrics to Premium was only part of its routine testing.
According to The Verge, Spotify’s co-head of global communications, CJ Stanley, explained that the company conducts various tests to improve the user experience.
Some of these tests may lead to broader user experience changes, while others serve purely as valuable learning experiences.
“In keeping with our standard practices, we’re currently testing this with a limited number of users in a pair of markets,” says Stanley, but did not give further details.

One of the most popular features that Spotify users requested was in-app lyrics. In which the company started testing in 2019.
Spotify officially introduced the feature in 2021, which allowed users of both the free and Premium versions, across all platforms, to view and sing along to the lyrics of their favorite tracks.
As of our own testing, we can confirm that free-tier users can still enjoy the Spotify in-app lyrics experience on any platform.
