Recently, UI images have been leaked that suggest the much awaited Spotify lossless audio feature is nearing its release.
The music streaming app’s bitrate is currently 320kbps, with screenshots below showing that this could increase up to 1,411kbps. The UI leaks also suggest lossless streaming quality up to 2,117kbps.
Certain songs may also support 24bit or 44.1kHz by using the FLAC audio format with limited availability.
Spotify’s UI may also come with a device compatibility checker for lossless audio. This would advise users if they could download lossless quality music for optimal offline listening.
But for now, lossless playback still isn’t up and running. The feature could also be coined as ‘enhanced listening’ instead of HiFi. Screenshots from Redditor OhItsTom suggest that Spotify is rebranding HiFi to ‘Lossless’.
The audio streaming platform currently faces scrutiny for unfulfilled promises relative to these features over three years despite the developments.
In that regard, their competitors consisting of Amazon Music, Apple Music, and Tidal have been able to offer high-resolution audio. While their efforts to reassure users about the incoming update have been recognized, it still raises eyebrows because of delays.
Wrapping this up, the UI elements in the app is surely a sign of progress from Spotify’s end. However, the platform needs to find ways to keep their users optimistic until the feature is ready for launch and widely available.
