The cause of Facebook’s recent outage

Facebook has released a statement explaining the cause of the accessibility problems on its app and other related apps that users all around the world have experienced yesterday.

The company stated in their official Twitter profile that the main cause of the abnormalities in their platform is due to a server configuration change on their end. They have also assured its users that the outage was not caused by a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack. In the end, they didn’t elaborate on the technicalities that they encountered as to why they changed their server configuration which caused issues in their services.

“Yesterday, as a result of a server configuration change, many people had trouble accessing our apps and services. We’ve now resolved the issues and our systems are recovering. We’re very sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate everyone’s patience.”

As of writing, Facebook and its family of apps including Instagram and Oculus are back to normal and are running normally as it should.
