The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) released the latest results from its Labor Force Survey (LFS) on Thursday, highlighting the top occupations based on average daily basic pay.
According to the April 2024 LFS, managers received the highest average daily wage, earning PHP 1,400 per day. The PSA defines managers as individuals who “plan, direct, coordinate, and evaluate the overall activities of enterprises, governments, and other organizations.”
Following managers, professionals earned an average daily pay of PHP 1,222. These professionals apply scientific or artistic concepts and theories into their work, encompassing fields such as sciences, social sciences, legal and social services, and the arts.
Armed forces occupations ranked third, with an average daily basic pay of PHP 1,208. This category includes all jobs held by members of the armed forces, excluding roles in civil defense such as police and customs inspectors.
Technicians and associate professionals came in fourth, receiving an average daily basic pay of PHP 792.
These workers perform technical tasks related to the application of scientific or artistic concepts, operational methods, and business or government regulations.
Clerical support workers were the fifth highest-paid occupation, with an average daily basic pay of PHP 728. Their duties include recording, organizing, storing information, and performing clerical tasks such as handling money, arranging travel, and managing appointments.
The PSA also identified the bottom five occupations in terms of daily basic pay:
Elementary occupations – PHP 403
Skilled agricultural, forestry, and fishery workers – PHP 443
Service and sales workers – PHP 508
Craft and related trades workers – PHP 541
Plant and machine operators and assemblers – PHP 554
Elementary occupations involve simple, routine tasks requiring the use of hand-held tools, such as cleaning, restocking supplies, basic maintenance, helping in the kitchen, and street sweeping.
Skilled agricultural workers are involved in soil preparation, sowing, fertilizing, harvesting crops, breeding, raising, and tending animals, hunting, catching and cultivating fish and other aquatic life, and selling produce.
Service and sales workers perform tasks such as housekeeping, preparing and serving food and beverages, providing basic healthcare, modeling for advertising, hairdressing and beauty treatments, law enforcement, and selling goods at stalls and markets.
Craft and related trades workers apply specific knowledge and skills in constructing and maintaining buildings, making handicrafts, pottery, and glass, creating metal structures, and welding and casting metal.
Plant and machine operators and assemblers operate and monitor industrial and agricultural machinery and equipment.
