In an investor presentation, Twitter has recently announced two new upcoming features – Super Follows and Communities for its platform.
With this new Super Follows feature, Twitter users may charge their followers and give them access to extra content. This may include subscriber-based content, such as newsletters, videos, deals, and discounts. This would make users pay a monthly subscription fee to get access to special content. Further, this would also allow users to earn directly from their followers, as Twitter recognizes it as a way to let creators and publishers get paid directly by their fans.
Moreover, the platform did not specify the portion of the revenue it would share from those who sign up paying subscribers. Still, the subscriptions will presumably enable Twitter to take a cut from these earnings.
“Exploring audience funding opportunities like Super Follows will allow creators and publishers to be directly supported by their audience and will incentivize them to continue creating content that their audience loves,” Twitter said in a statement.
On the other hand, the social media platform also announced Communities. It is a feature that appears to be the platform’s take on something like Facebook Groups. Through this, users will be able to create and join groups that have a distinct theme or interest. Those part of these Communities will then be able to see posts on similar topics.
These features are not yet available at this moment. Meanwhile, there is no word yet on when these features will become available.
