Mphasis Corporation, an IT firm based in the U.S.A has recently indicated that it has an interest in establishing its first BPO operation in the Philippines.
The news comes from an announcement by Secretary Ramon Lopez of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) who had met with Nitin Rakesh, Mphasis Corporations’ CEO, and Indranil Roy, Industry Solutions Group SVP & Global head.
Mphasis had looked to the Philippines as a location to place their BPO. This project would bring in around 1,500 to 2,000 jobs in the Philippines. As a subsidiary of the Blackstone Group in New York, Mphasis provides IT services for different industries such as finance, banking, healthcare, telecommunication, and logistics. Currently, Mphasis employs over 40,000 IT-related jobs across India, Mexico, Costa Rice, Germany, Taiwan, and the UK.
“Our country is increasing its capacity to become a global player in IT-enabled services through the provision of analytical and AI skills development, competitive enabling environment, and cost efficiencies. This, thereby, ensures that investors can profitably serve international and fast-growing regional markets,” — Ramon Lopez, DTI Secretary.
Furthermore, Ceferino S. Rodolfo, the Board of Investments (BOI) Mangin Head Trade Undersecretary has stated that the BoI and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) have an understanding and are open to working with Mphasis in various educational institutions in developing talent through tailor fitting curriculums.
Lopez had also mentioned that human resources would not be a problem as the BPO industry in the Philippines had remained resilient with no layovers during the pandemic. It was also mentioned that they can tap into returning OFWs who have the experience, knowledge, and skills in contributing to the Philippines’ IT Industry.
This comes as news for further development of the IT industry in the Philippines. As the industry has contributed to roughly 4.5 million jobs with over 700 BPO companies in the country and a total of 26.7 billion USD in service exports with the Philippines gaining 13% of the global market share.
