It’s been more than a year since UnionBank has taken over Citi PH. Now, UnionBank aims on letting go of Citi in early 2024.
After completing their PHP 72 billion takeover of Citi’s business, Union Bank plans on dropping Citi for all credit cards in early 2024.
“It’s going to be a gradual process as you change the card. But I think the absolute drop date would probably be the end of the first quarter next year. But of course, between now and then some people are already going to get the UnionBank card,” said CEO and president of UnionBank Edwin Bautista.
According to Bautista, there is an estimate of 1.5 million active UnionBank credit cards and users can continue to receive htheir credit or debit cards without the Citi name brand.
The Citi logo has been taken down at Quezon City’s Citibank Square Eastwood which was the home of Citibank NA consumer banking group for the last 20 years.
Additionally, Bautista stated that the majority of the bank’s programmers had been reassigned to San Pedro, Laguna’s UnionBank Innovation Campus.

Ofc it’s best to go to the branch in person but you can also apply online thru their website. I did opened an account in both ways and there are differences. You can also call their customer service if you don’t want to go personally
